Collecting football badges. A resource for collectors of enamel football badges and people interested in football memorabilia.

Football memorabilia remains a popular genre for collectors.
Those who choose to collect often focus on items such as
football badges, shirts, scarves, programmes, tickets etc.

Enamel football badges are a popular item to collect they
are less likely to suffer wear and tear if they are looked
after, and they can be extremely decorative.

As a bonus for new collectors newly issued or contemporary
badges remain in an affordable price bracket of between £2.50 and £5.00 however this can increase for older badges.

It is unfortunate that many clubs in the premiership etc
have now chosen to overlook this market in favour of
supposedly more profitable lines. Consequently good quality official hard enamel badges are rarely available from club shops today.

Just call in at you club shop and ask for an enamel badge you will either be offered an acrylic badge, kit badge or greeted with a blank stare.

While this may prove frustrating for some collectors it does mean that the value of older official and unofficial enamel badges will continue to rise in value.
Fortunately for new collectors non league football offers a good hunting ground for football badges. Many non league clubs recognise that enamel football badges can still offer a source of income.

Through researching the teams and their badges a collector can acquire knowledge of Britain's social history. Many non league clubs owe there existence to works teams and industries devasted by lack of investment and overseas competition. Personally, I feel that this is an aspect of football badge collecting that is overlooked.

There have been at least 10 different official badges associated with Leeds United Football Club. Some of these football badges were reproduced as enamel pin badges.
The Crest badge 1908-1960  is based on the City of Leeds coat of arms, and some versions show the same motto as the City's crest which is 'pro rege et lege' meaning 'for the king and the law'. The Owl badge 1965-1971 was reproduced in at least two variations as an enamel badge by Coffer. Some of these Football badges can be found at Sports Kerlectables. A variety of vintage and contemporary Leeds United enamel football badges are available.
